On April 8, 2008 the second quarterly training of the year for R.M.H.N. took place at the Greeley Police Department.  Present during the meeting were 105 members/associates of R.M.H.N.  The morning session of the training was designed to assist in standardizing negotiations equipment for Colorado and surrounding areas to facilitate interdepartmental assistance.  Specifically the exchange of equipment during an actual negotiations incident should a piece of equipment fail and negotiator familiarity with equipment should relief negotiators from another jurisdiction become needed.  Each of the below systems were shown to the members:

Direct Link                                                                             E.N.T. Call Box

(Enforcement Technologies Group Inc.)                             Cellular Systems

Rescue Phone

Crofton, MD. 21114

Each system was discussed in detail with both pros and cons mentioned.  After all three systems were presented a question and answer session occurred.  A ”straw poll” was taken of the 105 members attending with the following results.

System                        Has System                        Wants System

Direct Link                           4                                    8

Member of the R.M.H.N. Board of Directors hope this information is advantageous to agencies considering purchasing negotiation equipment.  It should be noted that the information presented on this web page is presented to assist agencies in determining what equipment members of R.M.H.N. currently use as well as prefer to use.  R.M.H.N. does not necessarily endorse nor reject any equipment listed on this page.  It should also be noted that R.M.H.N. is currently attempting to gather information from agencies in Colorado listing which hostage negotiation equipment they currently use.  When this information is collected it will be posted on this web page to allow agencies to determine which specific agency uses which system thus allowing interagency equipment exchange to become part of the purchase decision process.

RMHN Members are invited to help a UK based television show

Dear Bruce Isaacson,

I was given your contact details from Barney McNeilly (Canada's foremost expert in managing hostage-taking and barricaded persons incidents).

I work for a UK based independent television company called Mentorn Media. We’re currently developing a series for Discovery that will take a sensitive and intelligent look at how the lives of ordinary people and the lives of professionals are transformed by a hostage situation.

The aim of the series is to empower the victims and their families to tell the story of their experiences in their own words, and to allow the police, hostage negotiators, SWAT teams and other professionals a platform to explain how their actions help to save lives in extreme and dangerous circumstances.

Each hour long episode will focus on one American hostage situation, and through personal testimony, re-enactments, and news reports we’ll build up a comprehensive picture of events. We hope to offer a unique perspective into the psychology of the negotiations by including police audio recordings of the negotiations, and inviting the negotiators to comment on key stages of the process. This will form the backbone of the series.

I’m currently trying to identify interesting American hostage situations so I can make contact with the relevant authorities to request permission to use the negotiation tapes in our series. I’m aware that not all incidents are recorded which is why I’m casting the net wide and asking for the help of professionals like yourself who may be able to point me in the right direction. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

MENTORN MEDIA’S EXPERIENCE

Mentorn Media have been a major force in UK independent production since 1985. Our reputation has been built on successfully making quality factual programming regionally, nationally and internationally for all the networks and broadcasters.

We have a reputation for making high quality factual television that includes the BBC’s Question Time and BAFTA award winning documentaries and dramas, which makes us a company well equipped to make a sensitive documentary series of this nature.

Folio the observation wing of Mentorn Media have produced some of the most distinctive observational documentaries on British television. A relationship based on trust and sound editorial judgement has produced prime-time shows such as Traffic Cops, Car Wars and Shops, Robbers and Videotape for BBC One; Soho Blues for Channel 5; and Real Crime for ITV1. All have received critical acclaim and been proven audience winners.

As many police forces across the UK know from experience we are responsible programme makers who can be trusted. Our sensitivity in dealing with complicated police work is well recognised, and we fully appreciate the problems front-line officers have to deal with as they attempt to bring criminals to justice.

Warm regards,

Clare
